Welcome to Earth Stories Art Workshops; place-based workshops designed to connect to the natural world and the particular ecology and history of the site.

Workshops can last a day, but usually span two or more days, with plenty of cups of tea and things to eat, lots of skills building and good company.

Let me tell you a little about myself! I studied Visual Arts and Art Theory at University of NSW (COFA),  Charles Sturt University and New England TAFE. I’ve been a fulltime secondary Visual Arts teacher in both public (QCT REG. NSW DEPT ED/TAFE) and private sector (BGGS) for 25 years and a practicing artist for over 30 years with numerous exhibitions, art events, guided gallery art walks and coordinated community art projects. In 2023 I started Earth Stories: to create amazing place-based art workshops, expeditions and retreats to locations including Deepwater Station, Waterloo Station NSW, Mt Barney Lodge, Uluru, and Kata Tjuta, West MacDonnell Ranges, Bimblebox Nature Refuge, Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, and Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre. My own art practice in response to the site, also informs the design of every workshop. Bimblebox Art, Nature, Science Camp: connecting with the natural world through the arts.

What happens when over a dozen artists and writers camp for a week in a semi remote nature refuge, making art and exchanging ideas with other artists, scientists and nature lovers?

In this short film by Malcolm Patterson, Bronwyn McKean and Peter McLean share their experience. They are immersed in the world of Bimblebox Nature Refuge. It is in the only remaining unspoilt desert uplands, west of Emerald, Queensland.
