Birds of Karawatha Forest:| Lino Print Workshop @ Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre When: Sunday 20th November, 2022. 10-3pm. Cost- $50 Suits: Adults and 16+

Workshop Summary: Take a Brisbane Sunday to create a lino print based on a bird of the Karawatha Forest. Learn skills, meet others and do some slow noticing of the birds you may encounter in Karawatha: one of the largest areas of remnant bushland in our city!

What is Supplied: With a selection of inspiration images, you will design, carve, and print a series on different papers and colours, across the day.  Technical guidance, tea, coffee, visual references, inspirational images, lino, printing inks, printing equipment, and a range of papers will be provided. 

Booking note: Please note that once registered, resources will be prepared for you. If unable to attend, please provide several days notice, so the organisers can offer your place to others.

What to Bring: Please wear a wide-brimmed hat, secure, fully enclosed walking shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen and insect repellent. Bring lino tools, drinking water and packed lunch, as there are no food outlets on site.


Botanical Wetlands | Lino Print Workshop

Where: Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre

When: Sunday, September 11th 10am-3pm

Enjoy a Brisbane Sunday creating a botanical lino print. This Earth Stories Art Workshop will focus on flowers, leaves and seeds of the Boondall Wetlands. We will draw from botanical illustrations, found objects, and inspirational work by various artists: carve and print a series of prints across the course of the day: printing on different papers and the option of colour backgrounds.

Tea, coffee, Ezy Carve lino plate, printing ink, visual inspiration, printing equipment and printing papers will be supplied.

With guidance at each stage, this workshop is suited to a range of abilities and suits adults and 12+ with an adult.

Cost: $50 per person. Cash only, to be paid on the day.

Landscape Painting at Boondall Wetlands

When: Saturday 9th June 10am-3pm

Where: Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre | 31 Paperbark Dr. Boondall

During this workshop Bronwyn will share approaches to composing and painting a landscape in expressive colour. We will venture into the wetlands to make drawings en plein air, then return to the Environment Centre to translate these drawings into paintings on ply board.

This workshop will be a fun, colourful opportunity to work with an experienced art teacher on site, expand art making skills, engage with community and enjoy some slow noticing of the precious Boondall Wetlands environment, through the power of art!

What to bring: acrylic paint (cool red, ultramarine blue, yellow, paynes grey, white, dioxazine purple, yellow ochre, red ochre, olive green), brushes, mixing palette, bucket, packed lunch, toe covering shoes, hat, water bottle. A primed plywood panel will be supplied.

Bookings: Places are limited. All adults and all children must be booked in as participants. Maximum 4 people per booking. Before booking please kindly note there is no cancellation fee but once registered, resources will be prepared for you. Therefore it would be appreciated that if there is any change to your plans to attend, several days notice is given so that we can endeavour to find a replacement.

Lino Print Workshop | Birds of Boondall Wetlands

When: Saturday, 21st May 2022 | 10am – 3.00pm

Where: Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre | 31 Paperbark Dr. Boondall

Take a day for some slow looking at the birds of the Boondall Wetlands in this Earth Stories Lino Print Workshop with Bronwyn McKean. Working from a selection of beautiful bird illustrations you will create an original design for Ezy Carve lino, transfer your design, then carve and print a series of prints across the day. Ezy Carve lino plates and printing equipment supplied. A list of other materials and equipment to bring is provided below.

Bookings: All adults and all children must be booked in as participants. Maximum 4 people per booking. Cancellations: If you are unable to attend for some reason, in order for your place to be made available to another attendee, please cancel your booking via Eventbrite.

Reeds and Rushes 2 day/3 night Art Retreat 23 & 24 April 2022

Come on an art journey to another land…

Escape to Deepwater in the New England Tablelands for a two day, three night art retreat or join us each day in the wide open spaces and starry skies of historic Deepwater Station.

The Reeds and Rushes Art Retreat will focus on the timeless winding Deepwater River, hosted by contemporary landscape artist and visual art teacher Bronwyn McKean.

With an art practice spanning 30 years, visual arts teacher of 23 years and coordinator of the BGGS Desert Colours Art Expeditions to Central Australia, Bronwyn is particularly skilled at creating skills building creative art workshops to facilitate your own journey to create original work, develop new skills, and connect with the environment through art.

Itinerary

Friday 22nd April

Arrive at Deepwater on Friday night, and settle into your accommodation at historic Deepwater Station. Then enjoy a glass of wine or craft beer , warm fire and dinner at the nearby Deepwater Brewery.

Saturday 23rd April

On Saturday morning 9am-12 we will sit in the shade by the Deepwater River, for a series of guided drawing activities to explore the landscape and gather visual information to use on our return to the homestead.

After lunch at the homestead, we will move to a studio space to spend the afternoon generating swift guided printmaking and painting activities to create patterned papers for our Sunday workshop.

Sunday 24th April

On Sunday 9am-4.30pm we will combine material generated on Saturday to create a mixed media landscape. Bronwyn will share her own approaches and present the work of a range of contemporary Australian artists to explore a variety of compositional approaches and collage techniques as we work towards our own resolved work in the afternoon.

Details of Accommodation

The Shearers Quarters accommodation rooms provide clean comfortable single rooms with power and heating.  The shower and toilet amenities are shared and accessed via the verandah. A short stroll (50 metres) from the Shearers Quarters accommodation, is a cookhouse where shared kitchen and dining facilities are available for you to store food and to prepare breakfast or any additional meals. The Exquisite Small Things | A Drawing Workshop at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre

Saturday, 12th March 2022 | 10am – 2.30pm

Where: Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre | 31 Paperbark Dr. Boondall

Pack your lunch for a relaxing day of drawing on the verandah of the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre. During this workshop you will learn new skills for noticing details and drawing the exquisite objects from the natural environment of the Boondall Wetlands, including things such as seedpods, butterflies, beetles and snake skins.

After preparatory playful pencil drawings, noting shapes and patterns, we will experiment with mark making using ink and bamboo quill, moving on to a more extended drawing. Ink, bamboo quill and paper will be supplied. Please see below for other items to bring.
